Invisible Lineage showcases the work of four remarkable Northern California fiber artists—Mary Balzer Buskirk, Mary Walker Phillips, Lydia Van Gelder, Katherine Westphal—and their creative explorations with weaving, knitting, macramé, surface design, quilting, and ikat dyeing. This historic exhibit looks at the beginnings of the Northern California Fiber Art movement, focusing on four talented individual artists and their vision and passion for creating with fiber media and pushing its potential. It is also the first time that their work has been exhibited together as a group. The combined experience of their knowledge, investigation, and production is an important testament to their collective legacy that has continued in the hands of subsequent generations of textile artists. Invisible Lineage also showcases the work of four next generation mid-career artists—Patricia Abrahamian, Karen Hampton, Pam Moore, Janice Sullivan—and looks at the connections, both concrete and invisible, that tie their work to that of their forebearers.

Purchase the catalog online for $15.95 (plus shipping + handling).

TECHsytle SoftWEAR: Surface & Shape is an artwear installation that explores life in Silicon Valley -- a region without real boundaries and with an ethos that is difficult to capture in concrete form. This collaboration uses textiles designed by Corinne Okada Takara in sculptural artwear created by Colleen Quen in an environment designed by Rick Lee.
