San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles received a commendation from the City of San Jose for its 30 years of service to the greater San Jose community. The commendation was presented by San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed to Board of Trustees President Connie Tiegel at the January 8, 2008 City Council Meeting.

COMMENDATION
WHEREAS: The San José Museum of Quilts & Textiles has embraced and supported a wide range of exhibits that reflect our diverse community including the Vietnamese Áo dài, weavings from Oaxaca, and tapestries documenting the horrors of war in countries including Chile, Peru, South America, Afghanistan, and Vietnam; and
WHEREAS: Founded in 1977 by the Santa Clara Quilt Association, the San José Museum of Quilts & Textiles was the first museum in the United States to focus exclusively on quilts and textiles as an art form and has been identified as one of the top ten attractions in San José; and
WHEREAS: The City of San José recognizes the artistic and cultural contribution that the Museum of Quilts and Textiles has made to our community including the almost twenty thousand visitors each year and the thousands of children who are given an hands-on learning experience with the art form.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Chuck Reed, Mayor of the City of San José, along with Councilmembers Sam Liccardo and Forrest Williams along with the rest of our colleagues on the City Council, on this 8th of January 2008, do hereby recognize and commend the

in recognition of more than thirty years in our community and ongoing dedication to educating and enriching the public.
