The San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles offers a number of opportunities to engage youth in educational, art-making activities. Participation in our in-school educational outreach program for second and fifth grades helps teachers meet California state content standards in visual arts, mathematics and social studies. Our on-site Kids Create program celebrates the rich cultural diversity of the Bay Area with stories, crafts and folk traditions from around the world. Arts Express, produced by the Office of Cultural Affairs for the City of San Jose, provides visual and performing arts experiences for students in grades 4-12.
Kids Create is a multicultural arts program for elementary school children. Kids Create provides a fun and lively forum for kids to be exposed to the art and folk traditions of other cultures and then to put their knowledge to work with a hands-on art project. An important program for a multi-cultural city like San Jose, it promotes an understanding of the traditions of the many cultures in our community. Kids Create helps San Jose parents fill the gap in arts education that exists due to budget cuts in the public schools. Each Kids Create program includes a story, a discussion of an art or folk tradition and then an art project.
Kids Create is for children aged 5-10. The program runs in two sessions, from 11-12:30 and again from 2:00-3:30pm, and is held on one Sunday each month. See below for schedule dates and session themes.
Program fee: $7.50. Must pay program fee in advance to reserve space in the session. Fee may be paid online or at 408.971.0323 x14. Walk-ins accepted only if there is room at the session. You may also join the Museum at the Family Level and get free admission for one child to Kids Create each month (reservation still required).
