Kids Create

Get ready to explore the many cultures in our community with this popular program. Join us each month as we celebrate a different tradition through story and a hands-on art project. Kids Create is a multicultural arts program for children aged 5-10.
Materials fee: $7.50. Must pay materials fee in advance. Fee may be paid online or at 408.971.0323 x14. Walk-ins accepted only if there is room at the session.

High Fiber Under Five . . .

  • is an opportunity to acquire world class fiber art – with all pieces priced at $500 or less!
  • is an invitational art sale including works by emerging and nationally- and internationally-known artists – and features wall pieces, sculpture, and wearable art and jewelry.

The proceeds from this art sale benefit San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles.

South First Friday

Free Museum admission all day
South First Fridays are an eclectic evening of arts and culture in downtown San Jose’s SoFA arts district, centered on South First Street. Held on the first Friday of every month, the arts venues on South First Street are all open from 8 until 11pm and offer free admission and a wide variety of live entertainment. It’s a lively scene attended by arts-lovers of all ages.

Breakthrough: Strategies for Artistic Growth
A hands-on creative thinking workshop by Mary Zicafoose

Our mission in this fast paced, hands-on, one-day workshop is to unabashedly and wholeheartedly go where few dare to travel and discuss, explore, push, pull, design, and dream new personal strategies for cognizing and creating new work. Nebraska tapestry weaver Mary Zicafoose will lead this process and facilitate your journey through a select series of studio exercises that focus on creativity, content, and personal voice. Artists of all media and persuasion are welcome.

What to Expect and Materials to Bring

The day will include a ½ hour lunch break. Students should bring bag lunches. Minimum of 6 and maximum of 12 students. Advance ticket purchase is required. Workshop is $95 general public, $80 members. THERE IS ONLY ONE SLOT LEFT, so please make your reservation by calling 408.971.0323 x14.

Join this spirited conversation with the four artists featured in these exhibitions. It will include brief discussions by each of the artists followed by a question and answer session.

With the lure of the new, the enticement to play, and perhaps the boredom of the familiar, distraction in the studio is so easy. Polly Barton will talk about her experience with her daily practice and the learning to return to trusting, that which is true.

What's Love Got To Do With It?
Mary Zicafoose
Highlighting those places, people, textiles and art object that have brought her great inspiration, Mary Zicafoose will provide an overview of her path as an artist and tapestry weaver.

Pattern and Process
Eleanor McCain
Delving into the inspirations and meaning in her work, Eleanor McCain will discuss the various series in which she is working.

Blurred Vision
Mary Anne Jordan
Mary Anne Jordan will share the resources, other artwork and artists, and the activities of daily life that inform her work and process.
